The second issue of the SMART4Food Ezine has been published and is available to download from the project website. This issue outlines how the project aims to Empower Small Farmers through promoting digital skills and technology. Victora Iodanou, from project Partner Magnetar, takes us through the development of the project website and the key tools and sections it has been designed to host.
Our own Denise Callan shares how MEI led the development of the project Key Competence map, which in turn will inform the content and delivery of the SMART4Food training content. There is also a great account of how Croatian Partner, Šibenik University of Applied Sciences, conducted project research hosting a focus group to connect representatives from the agricultural, educational, public, and civil sectors, and it laid the foundation for future cooperation in the transfer of knowledge and good practices. In a further article, Neslihan Üte Mermer from Turkish Partner Kocatürk Danişmanlik, explains how farmers often rely on habits, traditions, and guesswork rather than data or modern methods when it comes to using pesticides and fertilisers. This is often because many of them don’t have the training or information to make better choices.
