RISE Resilient Communities

About This Project

Having worked alongside hundreds of communities facing challenges like dereliction, depopulation, and economic decline, we’ve seen how local resilience, creativity, and leadership can shape better futures. That’s why we’re excited to be a partner in the RISE – Resilient Communities project, which supports people and places to recover, rebuild, and reimagine what comes next.

RISE strengthens disaster preparedness through adult education, digital learning, and community-led innovation. It equips educators, community leaders, and grassroots organisations with tools to anticipate, prepare for, and respond to crises. By embedding frugal innovation, environmental resilience, and risk mitigation strategies into learning, the project fosters proactive disaster recovery and long-term community resilience.

Together with our partners, we will document European best practices, deliver structured training to 80+ educators and community leaders, and co-design recovery solutions through a digital Innovation Lab. RISE supports regions across Europe that have experienced recent crises—ranging from floods in Spain and wildfires in Turkey to grassroots recovery efforts in Ukraine.

Project Impact

By 2027, RISE will empower over 80 adult educators and community leaders and engage 250+ adult learners in disaster-affected communities. Participants will take part in cross-border learning exchanges, scenario-based training, and collaborative innovation events.

RISE’s Best Practice Guide and Interactive Database will share models of resilience and recovery across Europe. The Innovation Lab will enable stakeholders to co-create practical solutions using digital tools and participatory methods. The final Showcase will bring together all stakeholders to plan for long-term use and adoption of results.

Why we are excited about this project

We’re proud to be part of RISE because we see first-hand the growing impact of climate events on communities in Ireland and beyond. In 2009 devastating Shannon floods entered our premises as it did the homes and businesses around us. In 2023, in a freak weather incident a tornado hit our village. In 2025, power outages after Storm Éowyn caused severe disruption for almost three weeks in some areas of the county. We know that local leaders, educators, and volunteers play a vital role in helping people recover from the growing climate challenges we face. We are excited that this project allows us to apply our experience in adult education and digital innovation to equip communities with practical, cost-effective tools to face future disruptions.
